In 1988, JKUAT became a constituent college of Kenyatta University, which marked a major step towards becoming a fully-fledged university. The institution received its university charter in 1994, and thus, JKUAT became an independent public university. This transition was pivotal, expanding the scope of academic programs and research activities.
